Unless I missed it, there has been no mention here of Matt Cohn winning the NCGA Mid Amateur Championship June 9-10 in a 2 hole playoff at Poppy Hills. That is a BIG win. Congratulations Matt!

I have liked the new Poppy more than a lot of people since the renovation. I think it requires a tremendous amount of decision-making through the course of a round, more than maybe any other course I've played. There are a few quirks that I disagree with but I think it's excellent overall. I think it will be interesting to see a bunch of (mostly) first-timers get around it during the US Junior Girls Championship in a few weeks.


And I've always loved Spyglass of course. I've gotten pretty comfortable there but it could again be wildly hard when it co-hosts the US Amateur in August.

Not content just to win the NCGA Mid-Am, Matt came very, very close to winning the NCGA Stroke Play Championship this past weekend. He tied with Nick Moore, his frequent 4-ball partner, at +1 over 3 rounds at Poppy Hills, before losing in the playoff.

Matt congrats!  Wow what an accomplishment.  What part of your game is your thong suit would you say?  What are you working on to improve presently?  Do you have an instructor?
