Double greens in major championships
« on: June 26, 2018, 12:27:01 AM »
Carnoustie brings a rare double green to the Open. The Old Course brings another 7. I can't think of any other course the hosted a Open, U.S. Open or PGA with a double green. Maybe something years ago. Oakmonts 9- putting green doesn't count. Trinity Forest maybe some day. What am I missing?

Doesn't Carnoustie have a double green? Can't remember where, but I recall it having one when I played there several years ago.

Holes 4 and 14 is one green at Carnoustie with a maintained ridge in between which makes it feel like two separate greens.

However it has a number of greens that are 50 yards plus long which makes it feel like a double green.

In these days shortening a course for a major championship is rare which is happening to Carnoustie which is being shortened by 30 yards however it can be longer if the pins were at the back of most greens in one round

Ben,
They are playing the 145 yard tee on #3 at Bellerive for this year's PGA.  The 170 yard back tee has a hospitality tent over it.
