So as to focus on only the hardest holes at Shinnecock this year for the US Open what will be the 4 hardest relative to par?
I'm going with:
No. 2 - will play over 250 yards and if the wind is in their face will be very tough. Bunkers left and right, but fairly big green is the only salvation.
No. 7 - another par 3 and a redan with a very tough green. If it gets fast and hard stopping it on this green which runs away from the players front to back will be tough.
No. 10 - Shortish par 4 about 415, but played tremendously over par in 04'. Very sloping and crowned green that is elevated. I think guys will play it better this year, due to their length and have gap wedges in which will stop the ball (maybe), but if it is hard with tough pins (there will be some) then it could show it's teeth again.
No. 18 - Long finish and maybe into the wind to a very tough green where you don't want to be above the hole. This is my favorite hole at SHGC.
I know four holes are arbitrary, but basically I took the two hardest from each side IMO. What do you think?
BTW what a great set of par 3's they have.
