My Dear Marty,
But one of the wonderful, unheralded golf courses along this stretch of road to Sydney town!
My personal favourite is the wee nine-hole where you can smell, hear and, on a couple of holes, see the ocean at Mollymook. Lovely undulations, great sandy base, excellent greens and very few players! Absolutely delightful.
In fact one balmy evening, many moons ago, I was playing down the third hole (I think) and spotted a gleaming white golf ball all on its lonesome in the middle of the fairway. Caught between the devil and the deep blue sea, as far as being a canny Scot and or acceding to golf etiquette never to pick up somebody else's stray ball, I foolishly succumbed to the former. Well much to my surprise upon bending over to pop the ba' in my pocket it jerked away like a startled bird(ie)! At the same time there were hoots of laughter to my right and three wee urchins reeled their taunting ball back into the bushes fifty metres away where they were hiding!
Tae say the least I wiz mildly embarrassed but I'm never likely to cross paths with those scallywags ever again so I can rest in peace!
And, talking about resting in peace, just down the road there is a little cemetery where I would happily be buried as it has views over this delightful golf course and the clear, sparkling Tasman Sea. Happy days!
Cheers Col
