BUDA 2018: FINAL COUNTDOWN THREAD
« on: May 19, 2018, 06:30:37 PM »
FRIDAY

7 pm meeting at Golspie Club House. There will be an open bar but NO FOOD. Make dinner arrangements accordingly.

SATURDAY AT BRORA

1st tee time at 8 am. Format 4BBB.

LUNCH begins as we filter in from course. Sandwiches and chips/crisp.

Afternoon rounds begin ASAP. FORMAT foursomes.

DINNER 730 at Sid’s Spice just a few hundred yards from the golf club..

SUNDAY AT GOLSPIE

1st round begins at 8 am. FORMAT 4BBB.

LUNCH: There is a carvery beginning at noon. Players make their own choices and payment..

2nd round begins ASAP following lunch. FORMAT: Foursomes

Dinner at 730.

MONDAY AT GOLSPIE

Singles matches begin between at and nine at players discretion.

OTHER TOPICS OF INTEREST:

SHOWERS:  For those intending to shower at the courses prior to dinner, each course has two showers. Although one of those at Brora is in the ladies locker room but I was told we could have use of it on Saturday when we play at Brora.

BUGGIES:  I have Jerry, Ward, Sterling, and Bryan down for buggies. I reserved two at Brora.  Is this correct or do I need more?

UMBRELLAS:  Lou asked it he should bring an umbrella or if the fierceness of the wind made them useless. Sometimes the rain does fall straight down rather than sideways so It might be a good idea if you are inclined to bring one.

HCPS:  What I have so far

Steve,

yes I am scratch. Is the last day at Brora?

As to brolly use. Generally you can use a brolly though it can be too windy especially on Scottish links. The good news is the forecast at the moment is for good weather on all three days so fingers crossed.

This may not mean much to some but I know that Conrad has an interest in the fortunes of Liverpool Football Club.  They are playing a match of some importance on Saturday evening.  Will plans allow those of us who follow the world's third greatest game (golf first, obviously, then cricket) to watch?
In June I will be riding the first three stages of this year's Tour de France route for charity.  630km (394 miles) in three days, with 7800m (25,600 feet) of climbing for the William Wates Memorial Trust (https://rideleloop.org/the-charity/) which supports underprivileged young people.

Put me down for a 15 handicap.

Yes, for the buggy for me at Brora.  That's at Golspie day 1 as well isn't it?

The weather is forecast to be highs of 67-69°F with winds from NE around 12 MPH and partly to mostly sunny.  Summer in the Highlands.  I'll have to pack shorts and ankle socks!

Mark, there may be a tv at Sid,s Spice. Otherwise you can always exercise the take away option.

Chicken with haggis and bacon

Handicap - 8

Sid's Spice - I'll give that a miss if I may as Indian food doesn't agree with me....and I know they probably do fish and chips but it will still taste like vindaloo !!

Re 8am starts. Will there be a breakfast roll at the club or are we getting breakfast at our digs ? And if we are teeing off at 8am when do you want us to get to the club to choose the pairings/get ready etc ?

Niall, breakfast is on you.

Hope to publish pairings the night before.

0745 a god arrival time I would think.

Maybe you can join Conrad and Mark to watch Liverpool😁. Sorry you and Indian food don’t get along.

I learned the first lesson of Scottish links golf today. Don't believe Scottish weather forcasts.

Lynn Shackleford has kindly volunteered to help me with the captains duties. Unfortunately you did this by email and my Internet non-provider will allow me to except but not to send emails. So I am using instant messaging and this website to accept lens of her and thank him .

I am under the impression that both you and I will be playing Brahan Friday. Portmahomack proposal was for Thursday.
Stan Dodd is interested in playing, but didn't mention transportation.
I'll PM you both.

Garland, I misunderstood and thought you were playing Port Mahomack on Friday.  I am committed here on Thursday. My bad and regrets.
Also, I’m not sure I can make Brahman on Friday. Give me a time, please.
Regards and regrets,
Steve

At the risk of sounding like a worry wart/mother hen, anyone driving to Golspie/Brora on the A9 highway should be aware there is a dangerous curvy/twisting (and narrow) stretch of road about 2-3 miles north of the turn off for Dornoch. Multiple auto accidents seem to happen there almost every year, so slow down and be careful. ;)

Also note traffic has been blocked/backed up/delayed for construction on the A9 north of Inverness both times I have driven that stretch of road in the past 2 weeks.
