Doing some CB MacDonald homework
« on: May 08, 2018, 07:48:23 AM »
I'm hopefully heading to some CB Macdonald clubs this summer for the first time and ahead of the travel I was hoping to read up on his life and work. I gather Bahto's biography is hard to come by but his autobiography is a good source (and more affordable). Is there anything else GCAers would recommend before hand?

I have really enjoyed Tom and Jim on the fried egg podcast hence the trip to see some of CB's work

Most of his clubs will have historical documents and artifacts on him that are interesting.  Reading wise there are some threads with contributions by George Bahto on here that are many pages long and you can spend hours reading through them.  Enjoy playing his courses, I played NGLA last summer and it was euphoric.

Geeze, had no idea The Evangelist was out of print and hard to find.  Loaned mine out a few times to golfers who don't read much.  I guess my thinking was they could easily read this one, but not sure they ever did.  Once saw it on a pro's bookshelf (unread) and got it back for safekeeping for someone else to enjoy.  The last time to a good friend who died before he read and return it.  Luckily, got it back again.  Come to think of it, that was the second time that happened.  I think I'll hang on to it a bit more carefully.  Leave it on my shelf.  So far, I seem immune to the fate.  I miss those friends.   Great book, but friends are more important.  Besides, every time I look at it, it reminds me of my chance to spend a few hours with a friend like George.
