Scale.

I saw it in Crystal Downs, Mike Young's Longshadow, and others.  My first at Fortune Bay has it in spades, but the super wonders how he is supposed to get out in front of his mowing with a 600 yard, double fairway par 5..... :o

Q: What interests, inspires, and/or engages you the *most* when you step onto a tee-box and look out at the golf hole in front of you?

Quirky

Does anyone else have to re-size every single post they make ...

Thanks.
(that's for the responses, not for my 'one word' -- though I suppose it could very well be!)
Striking how many different priorities golfers have.
Would anyone be bold (or foolish) enough to argue that one/a few answers are 'right' and the others 'wrong'?
I wouldn't.
Which goes to show how many ways there are to design a very good golf hole...but also (and I think this is too often forgotten in an environment where ratings/press dominant and instant success is so critical) demonstrates how a very good golf hole might not 'fully satisfy' quite a large number/range of different golfers.
I guess that's the trick of designing a 'successful' golf course - i.e. it has to cast its net as wide as possible, but at the same time stay true to itself/its designer.
On my mind: I just finished a small labour of love project (a feature film)....and the only way I could find to stay true to myself and to the story itself was to *not* cast the net as wide as possible...and in fact, to cast a very small net.

Peter,

I think the beauty of thread, beyond it’s simplicity, is that each response is an opinion, which takes away all manner of right and wrong. It is a reminder that golf appeals to each of us differently, thank goodness.

Indeed, Joe - which is one of the reasons I like reading posts from you and other pros, i.e. because the process of designing/crafting what one thinks best while at the same time leaving room for all these various 'appeals' is an interesting and important one
