1) Missing left and long leaves a downhill chip to a slanting putting surface.

2) Short and right in the bunker may have a little blindness but can be an easier shot.

3) Being on the green but above the hole with a severe breaking putt.

Can’t forget that the elevation change on the second shot adds to the challenge.

Love those titled holes.

It really is one of golf's great holes. I thoroughly enjoyed hitting 5 iron into the green about a year ago!

Mayday as usual great call

Andrew
Circa 1992 ripped a beryllium ping one iron way way right
Caddy winked at me as we walked to our tee shots, and surprisingly it was perfect
had a full five iron to the green and knocked it right next to the pin, but missed

what a great hole

It's possibly the most visually intimidating approach shot in golf.

Standing on top of the world surveying acres and acres of land and cliff and sea...so many places to hit it...so few of them good.

My pure 4-iron to 15 feet two years back maybe the most emotionally rewarding shot of my life.

8 green was great…. But 8 as a hole was not. Take out the disappointing 5th and it’s easily the weakest on the 4 to 10 stretch. Saw the course for the first time in September.
