Detroit Courses - Detroit Free Press 1938/39 Articles
« on: April 01, 2018, 10:09:32 AM »
In 1938 and 1939 the Detroit Free Press ran a series of articles penned by E. L. Warner Jr. on the golf courses in the Detroit area.  The articles contain a good bit of information on the formation of each club and their architectural histories, and although not exactly contemporaneous they are close enough in time to be considered fairly reliable.

First up.

CC of Detroit - May 15, 1938

Detroit GC - May 22, 1938

Note there is no mention of Colt's work in 1912/13 and Ross is given credit for work in 1919 and again in 1935/36.

The May 7, 1939 edition of the Detroit Free Press contained a map of the Detroit area courses and a listing of both the public and private courses in the district.
