Swope Park (Tillinghast)
« on: March 14, 2018, 11:34:16 PM »

Are the routing  and the green contours well preserved at  this 1934 AW.  Tillinghast  design  ?  Is the terrain mild or full of elevation changes

Thanks !

Mark,

Yes, the routing is well preserved and the terrain is rolling.

It's quite good.

As far as Kansas City public golf goes, Swope is about as good as it gets.

Routing's about the same and good terrain, as mentioned. Up in the hills above KC, it's pretty secluded for a municipal course. A few cool holes, and I can't remember a 6300-yard course I've played that felt longer.

The only Archie to touch this Tillinghast was Tillinghast.

I seem to recall the greens being reworked at some point, maybe the 1980's.

C&W indicates that Leon Howard did work at Swope Park in 1990, but not sure any details.
