ANGC narrows fairways
« on: March 10, 2018, 04:18:08 PM »
No, this hasn`t been done but i wanted to make a point with a course we are all familiar with. Most of the time when great old courses such as Merion or Shinnecock host the US Open they arrow the fairways which takes away much of the course strategy but very few golfers have ever had a chance to play them. So the fans cannot truly understand what has happened but they have watched the Masters and would realize how much the course would change if they grew rough and narrowed the fairways. It would ruin the course and the strategy and challenges in the design and the Masters recognizes this and will accept if there are low scores so when will the USGA do the same?

Jerry-The USGA’s playbook has always included pinched fairways and thick rough and I don’t see that changing as long as they are focused at having winning scores for their Open championships around par.
