Yeah, this thread reminds me...
I was cleaning off DVR space this weekend, and came upon this nostalgic broadcast from last summer...so I watch it and though he had it in control, it still comes down to a nervous 2.5 footer by Trevino on the last...
First it wasn't a clean-up tap-in...it was 2+ feet for the Pga and he marked the ball....he wasn't away (he would later apologize to Nicklaus after he made it, with a sheepish "Sorry I had to get that over with" handshake)...no harm, but interesting...
MORE forensically interesting is that in replacing the ball, which he did quickly, he absolutely pulled a "Lexi Thompson" by replacing it fractionally forward of the mark spot...though dim on a 1974 broadcast...to me its discernible...the visible writing on the ball, whose position is fixed by its hold in the thumb and forefinger, is now at an angle and position that renders it forward of the spot it was marked in.
Those who still have access to it, can decide for themselves...but no matter what your visual decision, I think there have been scores of errors, decisive or not, gone unpenalized within the tolerance of Lexi's replacement of that ball...
cheers vk
