My appetite for day travel has been reduced in recent years with the increase of traffic.  There are quite a few courses that I want to see again...Delamere, Cavendish & Reddish Vale.

Then we must get you up here for a few days!

You should add Manchester GC (Hopwood) to the above list. I think you would like it a lot.

Happens to me often, too, Jeff...

I always love reading Sean's thoughts on U.K. golf, and since it's looking increasingly like I'll never make it over, I can't really do much more than read wistfully...

However, I do need to defend the honor of American golfers with regard to foursomes. 🙂 I think two things are at play here. The first is the simple notion that if you're making the effort to travel that far, I think it's only natural to want to hit as many shots as possible.

The other thing is that the vast majority of posters on here are pretty dedicated golfers who are likely solid players. I can certainly sympathize with anyone who would be saddled with a partner who plays as I do, which is erratic to say the least. I played a little rotating every 6 holes foursomes with a few gcaers awhile back, and it was pretty obvious the gentleman saddled with me for the first 6 holes was frustrated, and that made us both uncomfortable. And to be clear, I don't blame him in the least; it's hard enough for me to play my misses, I don't relish anyone else having to do so!

Now, back to the real discussion...

Why no Prestwick on the list, Sean? It's pretty high on my dream list, based mostly on one photo someone posted on here almost 20 years ago. Just looked like golf, as Bill Coore would say (actually, I think he says feels, but I can't really feel the golf from over here).

Actually the tiny (above) link works.
the cart kills me though...

I was just browsing my favorite course to get over the winter blues and originally posted that only someone as well traveled as Sean Arble could NOT have Portsalon on their Top 50 Gb &I list.

While I disagree, it speaks to the incredible depth of the courses across the pond

Yep, the link does work and it's worth watching, thanks, Jeff.

Kinda funny, I missed your cart comment and had the same thought when I saw it... :)

The Portsalon video is beautiful, but as with most flyovers, this one did not  (IMO) really give the sense of what it feels like to play the course other than perhaps the walk up the hill to the 14th tee and some of the views of the greens.
In any event it caused me to take a look through my photo album of the course. I hope to return next year.  https://www.flickr.com/photos/golfcoursepix/albums/72157667715132893/with/27414214484/

Nice Stewart.
Great photos-seeing clover in the fairways gets me excited-the litmus test.
The video gives a great sense of what surrounds the course-a large part of playing Portsalon-that and the drive in-esp over The Bridge from Rosapenna direction

George-my drone would have the capability to blow that cart up if it drove that close to the green
