In June I will be riding the first three stages of this year's Tour de France route for charity.  630km (394 miles) in three days, with 7800m (25,600 feet) of climbing for the William Wates Memorial Trust (https://rideleloop.org/the-charity/) which supports underprivileged young people.

Colin,


The early rounds will be regional but that still means pretty much anywhere in Scotland.  By the later stages (semi finals, possibly quarters) it could be further afield.  Last year's winner lives in Essex but also plays at NBWL.  We try to make it as practicable as possible but inevitably, with a national competition you could, if you get to the later stages, have to play opponents from the other end of the country, though I'd expect neutral (and interesting) venues to be agreed for a match where the participants were a long distance apart.

Mark undoubtedly has better things to do with his time but every time I log on the first thing I look for is to see if the draw has been made. Last year was great fun and looking forward to this year even if the jourbey is a short one.

Sorry  perhaps not the mostwise choice of smilies - I wasn't rolling my eyes at your answer more the double meaning - how far you go, in terms of distance or in the competition. I guess I aleady knew the answer before I asked...


Stick me down Mark, I will do my best to play any tie I get, but have to withdraw if cost / family / work make it impractical. Hope that's understandable...

We're up to 22 entrants.  I plan on leaving this open until next Saturday (17 February) and then will make the draw, to allow plans to be made for first round matches to be completed before, say, the end of April.


So if you want to play and haven't committed yet, please shout.

I have done the draw.  Just need to find some time to post it.  Just for you, Sam, I can reveal that you have the "home" draw against Giles Payne, though bear in mind the desirability of playing at interesting venues.  Though between the two of you that shouldn't be a problem.
