I would like to join in for 2018.  I am from S.E. Michigan, and I can host (Meadowbrook C C).

How does this work?

Bracketed match play tournament with handicap where opponents agree on a date and location. The location will ideally be an architecturally relevant golf course.

Bump.

Brackets will be made toward the end of February which will give everyone a couple months to get their 1st round matches played.

If there is still room in the brackets, I'd love to join in the fun!

I'm in too. It would be nice to say I advanced through my playing ability and not forfeit my way there.

You would have smoked me last week at Forest Park. Although I did par the Biarritz.

I would also join again after a close loss in South Bend last year. In Chicago, can host at Glen Club, or travel

Well in that case maybe you and I should square off again in the first round ;D We are only 2 1/2 hours apart

I'd be interested in playing in this again this year.  I live in Chicago.  Thanks.

This seems like a 6 month bracket as I come back to Chicago every summer for a month.  I doubt that is enough to be included right?  Unless I promise to lose my first round match perhaps?   ;D

A more optimistic take is you took the Steven Bradbury, the Australian speedskater, strategy.  No need to exhaust yourself actually defeating your opponents when you can sit home drinking beer while accepting forfeit victory after forfeit victory.  Playing golf can involve long walks!

I'm in assuming I don't re-re-injure  :-[  the wrist I re-injured on the very last damn hole of the Midwest Mashie which kept me from playing much golf last year!

I again tried to minimize drive time for the first couple of rounds as best as possible while trying to avoid repeat matches from last year.  First round matches to be played by the end of May or at least on the books for early June.  If you win your first round match but unable play next round, let the match loser know and they can take your spot.  Let's try to get this completed this year!

Sorry couldn't do it after checking with work schedule.  Have to keep this in mind next year.  Great time I'm sure.

Sturges and I played yesterday on a pretty good March weather day at Moundbuilders east of Columbus (also joined by Evan Fleisher).

I ended up loosing on the 19th hole when Chris hit the pin for a gimme after we both missed putts inside 5ft on 18.

The mounds out there definitely come into play on a course that is otherwise relatively flat.  There is a really fun stretch on the back 9.

With the weather we are having in Chicago I am sure we can start having matches in August or September.....does anyone have their pins in?  I got a few emails from some public courses stating they are open but my lawn is still dormant.

It is April 7th, and there is snow on the ground in Cincinnati. What B.S.!!

Brad and I are planning to play our match at Miami Valley during the Walking Golfers event in mid-May.

The first result:  on a fine, gusty morning in metro Detroit, I lost to Ari Techner when he sunk a four-footer on the last green at Meadowbrook to beat me, 1-up.

It was a really good match:  we both played pretty well, except for a couple of holes we totally threw away.  I got to 2-up early with a net birdie on #1 and a wedge to 3 feet on #3; I promptly handed back the par-5 4th, and even with another birdie at the 6th, we were back to all square at the turn.  Ari got to 2-up after 14, but I parred both 15 and 16 with strokes in hand, and we were back to all square.  A great chip through the Biarritz swale at the 17th for a tap-in birdie put Ari back on top to stay.

I thought Meadowbrook was everything it's been advertised to be -- a really fun place to play with some pretty wild old-school features.  It helped that there were several shortish par-4 holes to balance the long ones.

That a lot of those wild features are actually new additions is quite remarkable.  Most redesign projects tend to be conservative in design, because clubs are afraid to lose their existing members by making too many changes; Meadowbrook gave Andy Staples a green light to go for something better, and attracted way more new members than the losses they suffered as a result.
