Midwest USA GCA Knockout - 2018 (See Reply #41 for Bracket)
« on: January 02, 2018, 04:41:32 PM »
With the current wind chill of -12 what better time than now to start organizing the 2018 edition of the Midwest knockout.  There are currently 5 matches that still need to be played to determine the 2017 champion.....assuming those who are scheduled to play are still interested in doing so.

Let me know if you are interested and also provide your location as to minimize drive time for the first few rounds as much as possible.  I will also try to make sure for the first round there are no duplicate match-ups from last year.

As opposed to last year, there will be a somewhat firm time limit to get the matches played so we can get a winner crowned by the end of the year.  Ideas and suggestions welcome.

Stay warm,
James

I'm interested in getting in on this.  Without kids I'm willing to travel to play so please count me in this year.  Only downside is I'll be moving late summer/fall.

Currently in Dayton OH.

I'll try my luck again this year with an improved (higher) handicap. Happy to host match.

I'm in again. Cincinnati, OH. Happy to host, although the course will have some nip and tuck going on throughout the year; just don't know exactly when yet.

Also up for non-competing marker status when I lose. I even promise to play a different ball than the people competing in the match this time. I still feel badly about that, Josh.  :-[

I'm in this year --home base Minneapolis but travel to Chicago monthly and usually go to N Michigan a couple times per Summer.

Count me in, Cincinnati area. Now that the shoulder is healed up, looking forward to actually playing this year and meeting some fellow GCAers.

I'll throw my name in.  This/these may be the only round(s) I play this year, so it's an excuse to get on the course once or twice.

I am in.  Located in Columbus, Ohio.  Criss, no worries, Dave was playing well that day, and I blew plenty of opportunities on my own.  Glad you both were able to see the course.

I'd like to try this.  Would be my first time.

I'm in Middletown, Ohio (right between Cincinnati and Dayton).

Thanks, Tom

I'm in, but I'd rather finish 2017 before committing to 2018!

One suggestion:  instead of the draw being random, let's look back on last year's bracket and try to get different match ups for the first couple of rounds.  Not that I mind losing to Matt B. again, but maybe I could get through a round or two first?

I will make sure there are no repeat match-ups from last year until later rounds.  Also, if there is nobody opposed to driving a couple hours for a first/second round match I can just throw everybody's name in a hat (would likely increase the odds of seeing a course one might otherwise not).

Count me in again.

Still a couple of matches that need to be played....hoping to avoid this again by putting some deadlines in place.

Winning with a bogey on the last hole hardly qualifies as an ass kicking.

I would say pair me with Sturges, as it'll give me an excuse to get up to NE Ohio. But I may not be able to do that 3-4 more times if I'm placed in the NE Ohio bracket.

I would love to be involved this year. Will be in Michigan through April, then roaming for a few months until I move to Chicago at the beginning of August, so able to travel for matches. Can host
