More Development at Cabot Links
« on: November 25, 2017, 02:18:58 PM »

It seems like there will be at least one more course built at the Cabot Links Resort in Inverness, Cape Breton with a possibility of a fourth course as well. It seems like a Par 3 course  is on schedule to be built with a possibility of another 18 hole Championship course on the horizon. Here is the story that appeared in our Provincial newspaper.

Thompson golf holes were created to look as if they had always been there and were always meant to be there.

Enjoyed a trip there in early September.  Didn't realize that the existing two courses were separated by privately owned land in between until we got there.  I asked a caddie about that and he said there was an RV park between the two pieces of property that had been owned by a family for quite a long time.  Given the rising popularity of the area (golf) there is very little interest in selling.

My wife and I had a great time in NS and PEI.  A different part of the world with significant cultural ties to GBI still very evident. There was a significant amount of interest from the locals why these western US people decided to go there.  The golf was fantastic.  A funny incident while playing Cabot Links.  I played with a friendly couple from Chicago.  He was talking quite a bit about Mike Keiser.  As we were talking about him, Mike Keiser jumped up and around a bunker and came into our fairway right past my partner.  The fellow was oblivious to him.  He had passed us by 15 yards or so and I asked him if he knew who that was.  His expression was classic when I told him.

Ben Cowan Dewar is starting to look like the smartest man in the world. :)
Big drivers and hot balls are the product of golf course design that rewards the hit one far then hit one high strategy.  Shinny showed everyone how to take care of this whole technology dilemma. - Pat Brockwell, 6/24/04

It looks like this course is still a possibility:  https://beyondthecontour.com/cabot-cape-breton-sets-sights-on-mabou-point/
There was a plan for the course on the wall at Renaissance which was photographed a year or two ago.

Tom will almost certainly comment here, but nothing is confirmed. If it goes, Tom Doak seems like the most logical selection.

And here is a routing of the proposed course that was once seen on the wall at Renaissance Golf.  This is from a story on the CBC News website: https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/nova-scotia/west-mabou-beach-cape-breton-golf-development-cabot-again-1.6620975
