Strantz remodel of MPCC

Ladies and Gentleman:

Some photos of the remodel of the Monterey Peninsula Country Club Shores Course have surfaced on the website of Mike Strantz......to be found at www.maverickgolfdesign.com.

I'll post some pictures here but check out his site if you haven't ever, it's well done.  Also to be found there is an article about a "sand capping" technique they have employeed to alleviate some drainage issues in the fairways.

Furthermore, there is another nice before and after photo montage on a renovation they are doing at Silver Creek Valley Country Club near San Jose, CA.  Some great pictures, do not miss these!

I maybe somewhat biased here, but the photographs do not do the project justice. From just about every angle the design is stunning.

To the Treehouse:

Was having a drink last night in downtown San Francisco with a friend who lives in Carmel and is familiar with the MPCC Shore course rebuild and said the course is absolutely fantastic in all aspects.
 
He is not a member of MPCC has no reason to be biased and yet has seen the entire project through the whole process.

He could not have been more complimentary.

Sounds like congrats are in order to Bob Huntley and the rest of the MPCC membership.  And of course to Michael Strantz.

The whisper is that it'll be the best on...

But, let me warn everyone that this type of hype leads to expectations and as a Chicagoan appreciate the need for cautious optimism.

With Strantz on site 24/7 I doubt he'll let it slip through his fingers.

Now, being a crass Chicagoan I wouldnt mind knowing what ballpark the projects budget is projected. And, as I recall the number that Arnies group wanted for a sand cap on the dunes, I'll add three more to that as a first guess as total for this course? Bob, any hints?

Not cheap Adam. It appears to me MPCC is getting some very good work done. I cannot wait to see the finished product. I love what i have seen thus far. Remember that much of the money was spent on drainage that was badly needed to let the Shore play more like a sea side course. You know as well as any how tough drainage is on the Monterey Pen.

JB- I guess if the memberships  look at their prop values nearing priceless, any number under 5% of that, would be cheap to enhance and add more value..

I remember the day I completed the golf course finishing contract at PGA East for Tom and Jim Fazio when they asked me to take the contract at Mariner Sands in Stuart, Florida. I pulled up on the job with my equipment and a young guy walked over and offered to help me unload it. I worked along side that guy for several months until the course was complete. I watched him on the dozer, the grading tractors and I remember thinking to myself, if this guy sticks with it he'll be doing some great things in golf someday. That was over 20 years ago. The guy I'm speaking of had it then and he has it now. His name is Mike Strantz. Hats off to you Mike. I wish you well. Shaper

To all,

After talking with the Great Bob Huntley this last weekend, I'm convinced that MPCC-Shore is going to be one great golf course.

I give my hats off to Mike Strantz and Forrest Fezler for creating something totally unique looking and totally in tune with its surroundings. Way back when, some particpants on Golf Club Atlas (in its early days) didn't treat these two with the respect that they quite obviously deserve, and I can only apologize for that because we lost their support and contribution to this website. A huge loss.

So, if they happen to be reading, Congratulations guys for building a totally unique golf course in the Golden State. I can't hardly wait to see the finished product.

Now about Silver Creek & Ted: quite obviously the Silver Creek members have taken this course in the right direction! Would you look at those TYPICAL Ted Robinson Pot Bunkers! Is that 1980's California Golf Architecture or what!?!?!
