That was , indeed , a Schmidt -Curley course called Avalon. Mainly a residential effort of mid-century modern architecture units with golf as open space. Almost made it to the finish line when Lehman Brothers went down hard . Mostly par threes, a couple of fours, executive effort for Sun Cal. Bunch of water features . The rep always wanted more "wow" as in......" Gary was on on 13 and said we need some more Wow!".... Grant Haserot in our office did the majority of design and visits.
I remember being summoned once for a mandatory big meeting on site with the Lehman Brothers ........we waited around about an hour past the set time when a caravan of black Cadillac SUV's came barreling past us, blowing up a heap of dust in our faces ...... and kept on going. ...and that was it!
Also, the main Sun Cal cat was on site when a plane went overhead and asked how often that happened. The property was essentially, right next to the airport, in the flight path ,and he was unaware. Shows how much due diligence went into that purchase! Just goes to show that, in real estate, if the market is hot, even the biggest idiots make money. And when its not.....
