In the spirit of the LA course thread....
« on: August 21, 2017, 05:16:45 PM »
Name one course you had to play for the rest of you life... that is fairly well known to the golfing public at large... where you would rather quit the game as opposed to it being the only option available to you.

I'll start it off, and I'll paraphrase my wife's words who doesn't play and doesn't know the first thing about golf courses. She said it looks hideous as we viewed it from several overlooks a few years back.  She may have even used the term "trainwreck" to describe it.

None other than LA: Trump National

Your pick?

I was really disappointed in La Costa North or South and would get so bored I might stop playing.
I love golf, the fightin irish, and beautiful women depending on the season and availability.

I'd never quit playing, but my answer would be Hyland Hills Gold in Westminster, CO.

So you'd rather quit the game you love than play a Pete Dye course with amazing ocean views, just because it doesn't live up to the site's potential? And somehow your non-golfer wife believes ribbons of green fairways juxtaposed against the big blue Pacific look like a trainwreck?

Hmm. I don't love Trump National and I hate its owner, but those statements are simply bizarre.

It's kinda sad how many people on this site try so hard to demonstrate how incredibly picky they are about GCA instead of just embracing that it comes in all shapes and flavors, and recognizing as such, not every course will meet your ideal definition of how a course should play.

There is no course I would rather quit the game than play. I think we may have reached peak stupid GCA thread status.

So you'd rather quit the game than have to play a course that you've never played?  Nice.

Great post.  Ridiculous thread.

Playing golf, at great courses and awful courses, has brought so much happiness into my life.  I honestly can't imagine anything that would make me want to stop playing.

No course would truly make me want to quit...but this one is close:  TPC Las Vegas.

It's the epitome of bad architecture.  It's in the middle of a housing complex, it's too narrow for how windy it can get, every green is elevated and they keep the greens too firm and fairways too lush.  It was honestly the worst course I've played by a long shot, and to top it off it was ludicrously overpriced! It's the exact type of course that gives golf a bad rap, no fun, too hard, too expensive, too long to play.

Let's rephrase Kalen's question:  Which course would you least want to be stuck playing for the rest of your life?

Plenty of housing courses here in Phoenix come to mind, but my go to "ugh I hate this place" is always Crossings at Carlsbad.

I also played Quintero this weekend and was reminded that, nice as the conditions are, beautiful as the views may be, if I had nowhere to play but that penal monster I might truly give up the game.
