Nope. It is about 1200 yards.

My gawd,

Who would have thought TNT would set new lows for abysmal tourney coverage.  Didn't tune in first two days, but this is beyond unwatchable with the non stop ads, commericals, player interviews, fawning about the course, etc.

It just occurred to me that the third round is going to take about 5 1/2 hours.

I agree, awful, the British Open was wonderful
Live Jupiter, Fl, was  4 handicap, played top 100 US, top 75 World. Great memories, no longer play, 4 back surgeries. I don't miss a lot of things about golf, life is simpler with out it. I miss my 60 degree wedge shots, don't miss nasty weather, icing, back spasms. Last course I played was Augusta

Watched 15 minutes of the tournament so far, 3d round took 5 hours and 40 minutes.  After a cut.

Disgrace.

Agree - a long, hot slog out there. Course is playing materially harder than a typical Wells Fargo setup, and the new holes are adding a few strokes, too. They tried to give some birdies out there at 14 and 15 but the heat was the winner.  Greens are rolling nicely but super fast.

Why did they play in groups of three?  They must have realized it would take 5 - 5 1/2 hours.

I thought the course was difficult in a brutal way, at least for today.  Tomorrow the hole locations will probably be easier.

John:.

Groups of three?  No idea.  But it is a large field.  I am arguing out of ignorance so this is pure speculation...there are a lot of par 4.5 holes and a driveable par 4.  Not good for pace of play.  I have to read the papers in the morning for their take...but this seems unwatchable and I am gonna play twilight tomorrow instead of watching.

IMO, the reason play is taking so long is the lightning fast greens. Great shots aren't rewarded, and every putt takes a ton of time to read line and pace. Just cause you can get the greens rolling so fast they are on edge, doesn't mean you should.

Threesomes because of weather concerns - lightening delayed play Friday. It poured one mile away around 1:00 but just a light sprinkle at QH. They're hoping for the same today.

Agree on slow play comments - course is on the edge relative the green speeds, and rough is higher than it needs to be. Rory won here a few years back in the regular tour stop at -21...so yes it's tougher now!

Longtime member and tour player Webb Simpson said the setup is too hard at Quail Hollow. This coming from a guy who won a US Open.

About a dozen guys under par, the leader sniffed 10 under, two rounds of 64 have been posted, and Chris Stroud has a serious chance to take it down.

Kisner ranks 127th on tour in ave driving distance at 288 yards
Stroud ranks 152nd on tour in ave driving distance at 286 yards (just ahead of Kuchar, who almost won the Open).

Counter-intuitively, the wickedly long and punishing course seems to have neutralized most of the bombers.  Bubba, Rory, Dustin, Brooks, Rahm, and Day have all imploded.

Matsuyama, Thomas, and Murray are all really long off the tee, but we do have a good mix.  And at Erin Hills, we also this phenomenon with Brian Harmon battling down the stretch (who is only 1 spot higher than Kisner in driving distance).

It's hard to be captivated by a course that I don't know very well, but I do like that the leaders won't be able to just put it on cruise control on the final stretch if they are leading.
