Plane crash at Longbow GC in Mesa, AZ

Two people were killed in a plane crash today at Longbow GC, an underrated Ken Kavanaugh design in Mesa, AZ.

Aerial footage of the aftermath indicates the plane impacted in the 10th fairway, short of the green there. No golfers were hurt (play is sparse on July afternoons in Phoenix, thankfully).

The plane was either approaching or taking off from Falcon Field, a small airport quite near the course. The 10th, 1st, and 2nd holes are right in the runway flight plan.

No word from the course as yet. There doesn't look to be much damage to the course itself--certainly investigators will need some time at the scene, however.

Ouch.

Played in the Longbow Men's Club for about 7 years.  Learned how to tune out the sound of passing aircraft.  The 2nd green is about 1/4 mile from the end of the runway and directly in the flight path.

Too bad. That airport is a really busy commercial airport, and Longbow--a public course I really like, well done by Ken Kavanaugh with a nice variety of holes--is certainly right under the flight path most days.
