In my opinion, this is just further proof that professional golfers, while they obviously hit the golf ball much better than I,  have no particular skill in evaluating golf course design.

They do seem to share a narcissistic tendency to favour courses where they have found personal success, and then to make sure that they remind everybody about it.

Have these guys ever played golf just for the sheer love of it?

Seemed like pretty good lists to me.

Nothing off the beaten path which is a bit surprising given they are from the respective countries, but I'm sure the rarely go off the beaten path now that they probably live in an environment similar to Jupiter Florida...

pretty hard to begrudge a guy who picks a course he won on.

Didn't even see that.Ha!
Harrington's list is pretty solid.
Wareville from the back tees is probably fun for guys that can play like they do
I was there a month (in the wooden era) and ALWAYS played the white tees rather than the blues (which were offered)

I'm sure Scott Warren will be glad to see the European Club on both Harrington's and McIlroy's lists!   ;D

I wish there was a like button!
In July I will be riding two stages of this year's Tour de France route for charity, including Mont Ventoux for the William Wates Memorial Trust (https://rideleloop.org/the-charity/) which supports underprivileged young people.

I was always amazed that when I would ask a Web/PGA/Champions player, they all gave the same answer... Course X, since that is the course I won and always scored well.

Harrington's list is a fine one and has nothing to do with where he has won.

McIlroy's seems to be based on where he won (aside from Portmarnock where he regularly plays for fun) but is still a fine list.

Both Scottish lists are also just fine.

Didn't the US win the 2007 Walker Cup?

Didn't you find it a bit surprising the ones Harrington hasn't been to since he had a fairly lengthy amateur career (by modern standards). I'd have expected him to have played some of those courses he referenced.

They were asked to pick their favorite courses no the best. You can't argue with that. It is like saying, "You're wrong to pick strawberry ice cream as your favorite. Rocky Road is superior."
