Isn't that "mastery" definition really splitting hairs ???  Most folks are not a Hogan type hitting balls into yesterday's divots...  there's certainly locations safer than others to aim at which doesn't take more than a handful of plays to figure out or diligently note if your going to be trying to master a course.   The archies certainly have varying zones or areas of error or opportunity they give a player, so its really up to the player to notice or recognize things needed to enjoy the experience, some may take a lifetime, others just enjoy the random walk in the park.
