(NOTE -- EVENT CANCELLED) GCA Play Day at Beverly CC – 11 July 2017

As Terry Lavin noted in posts earlier this year, Beverly CC recently implemented a tree management program based on analysis and recommendations made by experts, including Brad Klein and Ron Prichard, in consultation with a club committee on which he and I served.  Work occurred over the winter and focused on removing trees that posed safety issues, impeded turf quality, compromised playability / aesthetics -- or some combination thereof.

If you take our word for it, the result is nothing less than a dramatic improvement to the quality, playability and enjoyability of an already wonderful course.  But because Chicagoans in general and Bev members in particular are notorious liars, we'd like to invite you to come see it for yourselves.

Terry and I will host a GCA Play Day on Tuesday 11 July.  As with past years, it will be held in conjunction with another Club event so as to ease the logistical burden.  Event details appear below, and we will work out a brief talk / program for the architecturally inclined.

Our current allocation from the Club is 20 people, but we will keep an active waiting list in case more spots open up.

Event Details:
  • 3pm CT shotgun start, followed by dinner.
  • $200 event fee covers golf, food & beverage and tee gift.
  • Walking caddie or cart + forecaddie required, with added charge.
  • Full payment details to be made available closer to date.

Bumping this to add that if anybody is on the fence due to the prospect of suffering through 4 hours with George Freeman, you can PM me to ensure that you "randomly" are placed in a different group...  ;)

Unfortunately, I cannot make this date.  I will be playing Sand Valley with Colton.  For those who have not attended this event, it is highly recommended.  Beverly is such a great place, with even better people.

Due to a combination of low response and emerging Club scheduling quirks, the Judge and I need to cancel this event.


We are looking at alternate dates later this season and will post an update once we settle on something.
