Lots and lots from the old days, I'm sure.


Of my own courses, I know that Lost Dunes' clubhouse cost more than the course.  Sebonack's might have been close as well, I never heard how the numbers broke down there.  Same for The Renaissance Club.  But in very few cases have my clients gone for the big clubhouse; quite a few of them don't even have a real clubhouse.  The golf course has always been the priority.

Every club on the British rota. The original Del Monte lodge cost $75K in 1919, according to the appendix of The Match, so that might have been close.


My other guesses, depending on how you judge the time value of money, would be Crystal Downs and Indian Creek. Maybe also Olympic and LACC if they weren't 36 holes?

They spent $500k to upgrade the sprinkler system and a few new tee boxes.  All the rest went to a brand new massive clubhouse!!
