The only course I've played in Pittsburgh is Fox Chapel, and I would be happy to play there again.  Course was fun, strategic, and challenging, and the people were warm and welcoming.

Fox Chapel is definitely the answer. Next in line would be Field Club and Longue Vue, both of which I really liked (here's a Longue Vue photo tour I did a while back: http://www.golfclubatlas.com/forum/index.php/topic,61584.0.html )

Birdsfoot GC was interesting. A bit North of Pittsburgh.
Best Played So Far This Season:
Crystal Downs CC (MI), The Bridge (NY), Canterbury GC (OH), Lakota Links (CO), Montauk Downs (NY), Sedge Valley (WI)

Although it will require a slight detour Sunnehanna in Hockeyville USA(Johnstown) is a fine old Tillinghast with tons of history from the amateur tournament held there every year. It's on a good piece of rolling land with some beautiful vistas out over the countryside.

Fox Chapel and the Field Club climb to the top of the list. St Clair is a sleeper and worth a play. Rolling Rock is a hybrid. Only nine holes were designed by Ross. The second nine was added in the late 90's and are not very good.

The original nine at Rolling Rock is fantastic, and unusual.

If you have seen a lot of Raynor courses, you'd get more out of that than Fox Chapel, in my opinion.

I was hoping to get to Sunnehanna for The Confidential Guide but never made it.

Sunnehanna is very cool where ground game options need to be employed on a number of holes.

Allegheny CC and Sewickley Heights GC are fun if you're in Sewickley. Cranberry Highlands is an ok public. Longue Vue is underrated.

I've never played golf in Pittsburgh [closest are Nemacolin and Laurel Valley, I think], but from the pictures I might go to Longue Vue just to see the clubhouse.

Depends on your definition of "in the pittsburgh area" is, but Pikewood National 90 mins away is excellent.

I get it, you are mad at the world because you are an adult caddie and few people take you seriously.

Excellent spellers usually lack any vision or common sense.

I know plenty of courses that are in the red, and they are killing it.
