Would you jump from a second floor balcony if...

the USGA would roll back the ball.

or

you could play any course you wished for the rest of your life.

or

you could end every post saying you were a past president of the ASGCA.

No. Concrete. Not quite far enough to kill you. Months and months of rehab. I doubt if you would ever quite be the same.

This is a trick question, right?
I mean, who wouldn't want to be 'not quite the same' if it meant being a past President of the ASCGA?
I'm already not quite the same and I haven't even jumped off a 2nd floor balcony yet
Might as well get what you can - and why would I care about a roll back, or playing courses that I can play already?
There's a typical JK trick here, but I can't figure it out

Peter, Ronald,

You have just got to choose the right balcony. Lived in a house built into the slope over looking Lake Zurich for a while. The second floor balcony at the back was about 2 foot off the ground so no problems jumping from that. The most dangerous thing would be climbing the railings ;D

Wow...IMAGINE being a past prez of ASGCA with the ability to be comped on any course you wished to play for the rest of your life and using a rolled back ball...what else could one wish for?

I think it was an either / or question, Mike.

I'd gladly jump if I could make the governing bodies [USGA and R&A] roll back the ball.  That would be as good for the game as anything I'm going to build from here out, although assuming I didn't land on my head, I could still design golf courses.  I have only one caveat: just to spice up the negotiations, I would insist that the loudest proponent of the rollback -- Geoff Shackelford -- jump with me.  :)

I can already play golf anywhere I want.  And I don't want a plaid blazer.

Because after I crippled myself and permanantly played out of a mobility scooter.....

within 5 years at age 59 I'd be hitting it farther than ever, and the USGA, after an expensive year long study, would tell me I wasn't it hitting it farther-but if I was--it was due to "athleticism".......

I'd choose option D.  I'd jump if all raters golden tickets were dissolved and no golf course allowed them on their course.  That's reason to jump for everyone would pay their fair share.

Indeed, rewarding poor manors and selfishness is never good, especially with such a fine game that we inherited.  I was just fortunate to be raised by a father that believed you pay your way in life.  Thanks Dad.

I think I'd jump if folks didn't continually question our motives and arrogantly think they love and respect the game more than we do.

Don't you dare try to side-step the issue!  You are scum and the ruin of golf!  I should know, I am scum as well.  Pehaps we should start a help group.  Hello, my name is .....and I am golf course rater.

It will always be a source of fascination to me as to why people care who pays what and for what reasons.  I am happy for mates who get good deals and make loads of money and live lovely lives.  I don't ask why or how...but thats me.

Been quite a year here for me! It's been implied I am a prostitute and a reason to jump off a balcony.  TBH, my critics suspect I already fell off that balcony..... ::) I maintain I was pushed. My story....sticking to  it.

JK, since the tag line apparently offends you and presumably others, I have removed the past president part.

Ben C,

Nice post, and I, too was fortunate to have parents that wanted to teach me to pay my fair share but, we don't seem to fit into today's "chattering class" mantra of the right to an expanding list of this or that just because we exist.  Dad said the world owed me nothing, and I still operate on that principle. I am sure most do, but you wouldn't think it talking to politicians and listening to newscasters.

And back on topic, I also agree we inherited a great game, and if I was going to take a drastic step, it would be only if we could get more people (especially kids) to play golf, so it exists in some similar form in the future.

Jeff,

The tag line does not offend me. I believe you have to be a member of the ASGCA before you can be elected president. That in itself is worth the leap.

Well, I (and many other Presidents) have gotten nominated when they left the board meeting to use the restroom.......It was a lot of unpaid work for the supposed (add that since many doubt it) good of the profession.

You've been a long time, valuable contributor to this dg. You should never have to apologize for, much less, remove, your tag line.
