Ripples in Bermuda/couch turf? New
« on: April 17, 2017, 04:36:12 AM »
One for the Archies and Supers: Can anyone advise what this is and how it happens?

Little ripples in our couch fairways and rough about three inches wide each raise in the turf and then a corresponding low point.

Generally on slopes and so I am thinking maybe related to heavy rainfall but a playing partner today also seemed to think it was linked to the thatch not being controlled.

Probably a combination of a few things-Machine mowing too fast for slope, needed growth regulator and needed topdressing. Mowing the same direction over and over can also cause this in bermudagrass

Like Anthony,

my first thought was a combination of mowing too fast and in the same direction.

Scott, it's caused by excess rainfall that essentially moves the build up of clippings. I'm 70kms north of Sydney cbd and have the same issue on the couch.

Thanks guys. I appreciate the replies.

Mark -- I thought it may have been related to heavy rainfall as the worst is in runoff zones on hillsides.
