I haven't heard much about this, but as the lead designer was Tim Liddy, I anticipate it will be solid to very good.  Another unheralded (so-far) Tim led is Chatham Hills here in Indiana.  I've been out a few times now and it is really an excellent course. Pretty tight, fairly walkable routing and even though it's a housing course, they never encroach negatively on the course. 


As soon as it officially opens, I have no doubt it will instantly become one of the best in state.  I am guessing this Nemacolin Woods course will be no different.

The original course at Nemacolin Woodlands is Mystic Rock, another Pete Dye design. It's rated #1 Public in PA by Golfweek.

Steve, there was a course built in 1976 called the "Links" course that was prior to Mystic Rock.   Designed by William Rockwell and was pretty forgettable, if memory serves.  ;)

The Links course is very forgettable since it's NLE according the resort's website: http://www.nemacolin.com/golf/


I've never played Mystic Rock but I have played Bedford Springs which I really liked. I'd rate BS #1 among the PA publics that I've played.

Steve, yes, the article states that the new course is built on some of the land of the original course, yet the holes are completely different.   RIP Links.

I was wondering if they were closing the Links course, as it seemed unlikely that there would be sufficient demand for 3 courses (Mystic Rock, Links, and Shepherd's Rock).  Having 2 courses, one of which is a significant upgrade from the prior one, makes more sense.

A friend played here in a tournament yesterday and loved it. Said it was the best Pete Dye course he has played and it was better than Mystic Rock.

I drove around the course a couple of weeks ago and it looked fun, playable, yet still challenging on a great piece of property.
