Sue Nyquist???
« on: December 14, 2017, 06:50:41 PM »
I am trying to find out some information about Sue Nyquist. I know nothing about her except that she designed three courses for the Huron-Clinton Metroparks in the 80s & 90s...Lake Erie, Indian Springs & Huron Meadows (which I played a few times).  This would have been a fairly sweet gig for what I can only assume is a complete no-name in the game.  Does anybody know anything about her?

Have you seen this?

We finally caught up with Susan Nyquist, Park Planner for the Huron -Clinton Metropolitan Authority, at her office at Kensington Park. Susan, who mentored under Jerry Matthews after her graduation from MSU with a degree in Landscape Architecture has been an important landscape designer and yes, golf course architect in Michigan.  While she is quick to point out she is not a golf course architect and that the design of the six courses she has been involved with at the Metro Parks complex have been a team effort, she was still the driving force in their design.  Golf course design has been a man's profession in Michigan, with the exception of a few courses. Susan Nyquist has certainly been involved in the design of more courses than any woman in Michigan. "My philosophy on design really comes from Jerry Matthews.  He always felt that you should let the land dictate the golf course and that you should move as little dirt as possible during the construction," said Nyquist.Nyquist, indicated that this year was a little slower than it has been for the Metro Parks courses.  The advent of new courses in areas that they serve and the slow down of the economy has contributed to the decrease. However, they still managed to get in their 330,000 plus rounds this year on their eight 18-hole regulation and two par three courses.

Thanks.  I figured Nyquist came from the Matthews or A Hills umbrellas.
