They are renovating Sunset Valley?? Hadn't heard that.

Seems like the obvious best new course in 2018, based on your list below, will be Kidd's course at Sand Valley.

Ohoopee has potential...people have never seen this area. I've seen it a couple times now and it is progressing.  It's sand and it could become a surprise area in the future.

We have to change the titles of these list now though  "Best New" no longer means a course is good.  It just means it was one of the few built.

It seems obvious that the South course at Arcadia Bluffs will be the best new in 2018.  Stoatin Brae should be on this list since only 12 holes were open last year.

PCCraig, curious what makes you say Kidd's course is the obvious best new?  Can you explain?

Ben, Stoatin will open this year

To add to the list would be The Ridge Course at Buffalo Ridge by Coore Crenshaw.  I'm assuming it will open in 2018.  Saw it yesterday and it will be solid.

I'm sure Matt Gillooly with the Golf Channel will be all over Sand Valley. He has Gulfstream tattooed on his ass from his latest reviews. For my money I'm going with Dana Fry up at Arcadia. It's gonna be nice to see a real course built again.

Arcadia will be the new "go to"course in Michigan.  Love that place!

Please change it to Missouri instead of Michigan.

Glad to see dirt moving at Buffalo Ridge, excited for the first Coore & Crenshaw in Missouri to open up.

Their Fazio - Springs course is already #1 public in the state, and I'm sure they'll have the top 2 spots once this opens.

Why is this obvious? Most of the courses mentioned have just started pushing dirt. Do you have some inside knowledge you would like to share?

Ryan,

Why didn't you ask the same question to the above post?

Fazio has a new course in Las Vegas called The Summit.  Its a clone of Madison Club, basically a frat house.  Million dollar homes, Waterfalls and the usual mounding.

A rebuilt muni will open in 2018 in Alameda.  Technically it has Rees Jones name but its really Marc Logan. Its going to look like an Australian sandbelt course. I've walked around it and its quite unique.

Lots start at around 2 million, so I doubt there will be any million dollar homes. Just multi million dollar ones.  ;D

There are not any new courses in the works for California. There are several renovations, a redesigned golf course on an existing site, that will open in 2017.

1. South Course, Alameda, CA, Designer, Rees Jones, https://www.alamedagolf.com/club-info/course-renovations
2. Santa Ana Country Club, Santa Ana, CA, Jay Blasi, http://www.hochsteindesign.com/santa-ana-cc/
3. Rolling Hills Country Club, Rolling Hills Estates, CA, David Kidd, http://www.easyreadernews.com/139389/david-kidd-golf-course-palos-verdes-rolling-hills-country-club/

Rolling Hills will be considered a new construction by any standard.

What an excellent read on Rolling Hills.  My only gripe would be not enough drag racing videos throughout the article.  Could've had one more.  Maybe two.

I'm very interested to see more of The Ridge.  The Missouri Ozarks do not seem like a place C&C minimalist style will work well.  The land is very hilly and the soil is perhaps the worst grass growing soil in America.  I will honestly be surprised if it's above average, even with C&C's usual standards.  I do plan on going as soon as it's open, I'm just not expecting great things.

Yes, I would agree that Rolling Hills is a new course.  We are still waiting for a new course in California that is built from the ground up with all of the infrastructure. I would expect that the Palm Springs area would be next for a brand new course.

Scott, the 1st course at Sand Valley does not technically open until May of this year. So it was not on any 2016 lists.
