Wanderers Club,Wellington, FL (Hardy/Jacobson/Miller)
« on: May 08, 2009, 05:26:01 PM »
This club was built on the site of Wellington Country Club and is complete redo from what I understand. It's a non-equity club with no real estate component. The owner is a polo entrepreneur and the course has a polo field adjacent to the first fairway that also serves as the driving range. A friend recently played there and liked the course. The club's website has no information. Here's the only info I could find from Hardy/Jacobson's website:

Has anyone played there?

An old friend of mine was partial owner when it was Wellington CC, but not sure if he's still involved with the polo entrepreneur you mentioned.  The original course, along with Palm Beach Polo, hosted the Chrysler Team Championship back in the early 90's, an end of the year PGA Tour event with 2 man teams.  Also had/has an 18 hole executive course adjacent to the core 18. A part of the real estate development around the golf course is called the Aero Club, which allows residents to keep small planes near their homes and has a grass runway for takeoffs and landings.
Nearby Binks Forest reopened as well, so along with this redo, it's nice to hear this part of Palm Beach was doing some things to improve their golf situation. There was another course right down the street from Wellington CC called Greenview Cove, but I believe it closed several years ago and never reopened.

Bumping this thread because I'm playing Wanderers Club next weekend and I haven't been able to find much about it.  It won 2nd place in Golf Inc. Magazine's list of most improved private course of 2016 -- but the article doesn't even mention any recent changes to the course, let alone describe them.  See http://www.golfincmagazinemonthly-digital.com/golfincmagazinemonthly/november_december_2016?folio=20&pg=23#pg23.

Anyone have any more recent/better info?

Carl,
I played it a couple of years ago.
Typical of what you see in the area, so whatever you think of that, it's that
"Let's slow the damned greens down a bit, not take the character out of them." Tom Doak
"Take their focus off the grass and put it squarely on interesting golf." Don Mahaffey

Greenview Cove has been closed over a decade now.  It was a decent course around a development with all that you would expect from Florida golf.
