"Fake News" on GCA...;-)
« on: February 20, 2017, 10:50:10 AM »
Doing some work on this quasi-holiday in the US and decided to check in with GCA.
Looked at the first 12 threads and noticed, with some level of alarm, that EIGHT of them are not related to architecture at all.

"OT" is getting to be VERY common.
"Televised golf" threads are increasing in frequency.

Perhaps we need to segment these discussions like other forums and have a dedicated "OT" section.

Wait, what...oh, crap - my post is "Off-Topic", too.
Sorry.

TV golf thread relates to firm and fast and a better appreciation of golden age architecture.  I didn't know I had to spell that out.   :)

Keiser to develop the Sahara Desert - Architect Competition to determine who will build sand greens!
Tiger's new course - 5900 yard Par 66!
Survey finds - 95% of all golfers love the concept of Par
GB&I to America: your golfers are paying top dollar for our "pasture golf"
Tesla to mass produce solar golf carts - California courses itching to subsidize
USGA to complainers: without our bungling, you'd all be driving it 190-200 yards off the tee

Tells Sens : I've been walking the Sahara for a month, and found 168,000 golf holes just lying there. Hoping Mike can buy parts of Sudan and Algeria as well -- there are some very cool holes across the border there

Let's start with "Showerhead Pressure help" (ironically NOT labeled OT)-which garnered 21 replies...
before we go after golf on TV threads (especially in the winter)

I know, I know...sorry, Jeff.
Don't mean to go after anyone for anything specifically.

Don't intend to "go after" people. Just crave some more real GCA topics without needing or mentioning the "M" word....;-)

Frequently mistaken for retired Lt. Col. Oliver North, CIA officials in Mali worry Coore's presence "could open up the whole Bay of Pigs thing again".

More troubling still is the constant presence, in the shadowy background, of right hand man Ben Crenshaw - who in the past was a very well known *tour pro*

Who would have guessed that it is February, the northern winter has been long, and those whose golf hibernates in winter are going a little nutso.

These threads happen every year in February and early March.  Spring will arrive soon, and all will be good again on GCA.

James B

ps - you could always go south for the winter.

In Chicago, we played golf last week and used the real greens as there is no permafrost due to very mild temps. Also, it has not snowed in almost two months. Been a very mild winter since we ushered in 2017.

This thread was meant to highlight two things, yet ms use of a silly metaphor may have blunted its effect:

1. 8/12 of the top 12 threads I saw were "OT"
2. Dearth of threads about GCA.

I merely suggested that a second, dedicated "OT" section be added much mike many other forums do.
