My favorite is the 5th at  Sleepy Hollow CC.  Although this picture is from the top of the hill you still get the skyline sense.

This is the view for the longer hitters who drive it to the bottom of the hill.

So is the shot from the bottom of the hill a skyline or just a blind shot?

I might have picked the wrong picture Tommy but there is definitely a skyline feature the more left you go.

My favorite hole on the course.  The skyline feature is visible (how can it not be? ;D ) from every angle at the bottom of the hill and of course heading up the hill.

This hole was also going to be a nominee for one of my favorite "up and over" holes that Mike Cirba started a thread on.  The greensite bunkering and expanded green (as well as traditional mowing patterns) are obviously more appealing than the pre-restoration model.  Add in the many trees that "actually" were growing behind this green and you get an idea IMO what the four most important elements are for a restoration.

With the caveat...also hire the right guy for your club.

Question to Chris (and please hit me up the next time in the area to play) but it looks like the swing is very clean....what the heck are you doing with such a long second shot unless this is staged? ???   I do realize back tee and into the wind can be rough.  ;D

Tommy,

I like number 14 at St. Louis CC. I have a picture of it but it didn't turn out very well.

Number 9 at Pine Valley. Heard they've removed many, if not most of the trees from behind the green (left one) to reinstate the Skyline nature of that green.

This is from June 2016. Was my favorite change at Pine Valley.

Corey, bad course management on my part (hitting 3 wood thinking I could easily get it to the bottom of the hill) and a nice breeze in our face made for a less then ideal length for my second shot.

Ballybunion #16.  The dunes pinching in on the fairway heighten the effect of the Skyline green.  An added bounus: good view of cemetery from the green if I remember correctly.

Question: is there a particular architect associated with the original use of Skyline greens or were they a logical result of courses on rolling land?

I just remembered another skyline green that is hard to determine the yardage, no. 16 at Bandon Dunes. It is an easy hole if you can drive the green. But if you go left then your second shot is to a green where you can't go long and there is a pot bunker short. The yardage you can determine but then you have to factor in a two club wind along with fast and firm conditions.
