I played Manchester in mid-summer 2015. It was a dreadful round. I lost dozens of balls in the knee-high rough. But my golf was rapidly going downhill, to the point that I have now completely given up. Now, my friend Duncan Cheslett played it recently and referred to it with reference to Huddersfield, with which he saw a similarity. What's it really like? Speak up Duncan, please.
I played it once or twice in the 1980s when my handicap was in the low teens. I didn't find it particularly difficult then. There were no outrageously long holes, there was room on the course, the holes were well defined, you couldn't stray from one hole onto another and, as long as you could hit a straight ball 200-250 yards, all would be well. Not so now....
