I have played there twice, and there a few fun holes. I can't remember which course, the North or the South. Both times I visited the place was packed.
Best Played So Far This Season:
Crystal Downs CC (MI), The Bridge (NY), Canterbury GC (OH), Lakota Links (CO), Montauk Downs (NY), Sedge Valley (WI)

I played there in the 1982 NCAA Division III championship. All I remember is that it was a 36 hole public facility and the course we played seemed OK, not great but not bad either.
Ramapo College of NJ shot a four round score of 1200 to beat defending champ Cal State- Stanislaus by a single shot.
The Ramapo team had Jeff Thomas who went on to win the 1993 USGA Mid Amateur championship and Barry Evans who later on in his career won the PGA National Professional championship.
I also remember a guy named Olin Browne played for Occidental College and I don't think anyone who played with him that week ever thought he would go on to be a guy who would win on the PGA Tour.
Hard to believe it will be 35 years this May.....WOW.

After losing money for years - some people think the city is getting a raw deal. Someone is paying them to assume almost all liability.

The north course is fun and rolling.

They just closed Snyder Park GC a couple of years ago.  I enjoyed that course, so fun old Nipper Campbell greens.  Glad to see these courses did not close as well.

I have played both Reid courses numerous times.  The North was perceived by me as the better of the two courses.  I haven't played there in about 20 years though.  I have fond memories of both and will find my way there to play next year to support them.

A quick story related to Reid South.  Reid South ended on a great little par 3 (now number 9 I think) right by the putting green and clubhouse.  My freshman year of high school at Urbana, they played the Regional tournament there.  I was the only Freshman on a team with 4 seniors including one of my older brothers.  3 of the 4 shot in the 70s (including my brother) and one of them shot 90.  I was still playing my Wilson Tour Junior set then, which I hate to admit, with only 9 clubs in the bag.  I came to the last not knowing I needed a double bogey or better to qualify our team.  I proceed to blade a 3 iron that worm burned its way to the green where it miraculously struck the flag stick and stayed on the green where I manged to two putt for a par.  Had it missed the flag, I am quite certain it would have been out of bounds, struck some people who were watching and disaster would have been the result.  The best part of the story was the headline the next day in the local paper, "The Freshman Comes Through."  Mind you I shot an 83 (I think) and the seniors were only a side note, which did not sit well with my older brother.  Some shots and memories never go away and I for one am glad Reid South in particular will remain around.

I played postseason HS golf there too. It was bitterly cold. The next year we played post season at Weatherwax. Ironically they almost both closed the same year. That par 3 you speak of goes right to the clubhouse area....lol

I remember playing the South Course at Reid Park each year at the Sectional tournament for high school. (I have played the north course once or twice also, but don't remember many of the specific holes. As I recall, even though the South was the designated course for sectionals, the north seemed to be a bit more difficult and covered the more undulating portion of the property)

The South Course was pretty standard for a municipal layout. The hole I can recall the most was the 11th?, it was a tighter par 4 that had trees to the right and a lake to the left. The fairway stopped about 200-220 yards from the tee at a lake. Rather than play down that tight corridor, I would hit driver to the right of the trees (over the 14th green) and into the 14th fairway to leave a short iron or wedge into the green. During my senior year, I remember playing it this way and holing-out for eagle.

May have to make the drive down there sometime this summer for old-times-sake and to support the course.
