I'll work on seeing whether I can make this.

Has anyone who knows the area any ideas regarding accommodation?

Would be good if we can all, or the majority of us at least, be in the same hotel? Or perhaps a large self catering cottage like at St Enodoc?

Thoughts?

Cheers,
James
James - There are posts on the other Buda thread that give some options. I'll give the warning again - the area is extremely popular in the summer and houses book quickly. The airbnb house looks like a good choice and perhaps similar to what we had near Rock although a little more isolated. The houses in Camber are smaller but much closer to Rye.

In an attempt to begin organizing the pre/post Buda games there is now a spreadsheet you can access. The link will be on the first post in this thread. As you schedule games at other courses let me know and I'll update the document. I'd also like to include where people are staying and will add a separate column for that.

In a couple weeks I'll post details on deposits.

Like Sean, I've booked into the River Haven for three nights (Friday to Monday). I've got free cancellation up until August 10, so am still very interested if we can find two or three communal houses like we had, and which was so good, in St. Enodoc.

Having looked into the large house to take a party of us and got nowhere, I've booked a room for Ben and I at the River Haven in Rye, joining Robin and Sean.

At risk of making it the unofficial Buda HQ, details can be found here:
http://www.riverhaven.co.uk/

Please note thats not a personal recommendation as I've never stayed there, but it looks to be a short walk from the centre of town, and isnt too expensive, so probably not a bad place if a few others of you fancy it? As Robin points out they have a decent cancellation policy and so if someone else finds something better thats great... Rye seems the right place to stay, whether its the River Haven or one of the various B&Bs Craig mentions.

Cheers,

James

James,
The River Haven will do nicely as the hq as far as location goes. I can't vouch for the accommodations as I haven't been in the hotel but I assume the rooms and breakfast will be fine. There's really only one house in Rye that would work but it only books for a week during the summer and only sleeps 8. The houses in Camber are still a possibility although they are a short drive from Rye - or a 30 minute walk - though none of them would sleep more than 7 or 8.

The odds on me participating this year are nil I'm afraid, much as I'd like to. If any participant(s) happen to be passing through the south Midlands or heading to/from south Wales though, either before or after Buda, and fancies a game send me a PM.

Craig,

My friend Iain Greenshields would like to join us for BUDA.

Conrad, Giles and I (and probably Iain) will be in an AirBnB in Rye.  I need to check it out as it may well have space for one or two more.

As to pre and post golf, we're thinking of Tandridge on the Friday and then RAF and Pulborough on the Tuesday and Wednesday.  If anyon wants to join us for any of those but particularly at Tandridge to see Frank Pont's work there, let me know.
In June I will be riding the first three stages of this year's Tour de France route for charity.  630km (394 miles) in three days, with 7800m (25,600 feet) of climbing for the William Wates Memorial Trust (https://rideleloop.org/the-charity/) which supports underprivileged young people.

Tandridge on the Friday sounds like a good idea.

It would be nice to also see the 9 hole Reigate Heath that day, as those are pretty close to each other.

I wonder how many of us would be returnees after last Littlestone event which was ?? 2005 I think?!

Philip

Didn't make it to Rye that trip, or since, so keen to attend. I can only definitely commit to Saturday and Sunday at this stage, but will work on adding the Monday and hopefully one or two pre/post days nearer the time. Not ideal I know but if that's acceptable please add me to the list.
Cheers

We are now ready to start accepting deposits. The event is nearly full and we would like to hold open 1-2 spots for members so some adjustment may be necessary if we exceed the current list of 22. As deposits are received, a notation will be made on the spreadsheet linked in the first post.

We are accepting a £50 deposit via PayPal. The deposit should be sent to   hstjet@googlemail.com

Use the option "Send money to friends and family." This will not add a service charge to the transaction. This is the option that appears on the US page; the UK page may be different.

£40 of the deposit will be applied to the fees at Littlestone GC. The remaining £10 will be used to cover any additional fees and some wine at dinner. Everyone will pay the remaining balance at the bar upon arrival Saturday.

The each player's fee for Rye GC will be made via paypal to Tony.

We now have 24 players who have expressed interest and it's possible others will ask to join. At this point, the only players who have submitted their deposit are guaranteed a place. If you're certain of attending, make your deposit soon.

It occurs to me that the River Haven may start filling up.  Just down the road is the Willow Tree...a very good B&B, but just that, no bar etc.  Anyway, its a good alternative and has parking.

You won't be disappointed.

I just looked at the spreadsheet...my dates for the hotel are incorrect...its Riverhaven 11 Aug thru 13 Aug.  So I am in town Friday night...we shall have to find a suitable restaurant.  Simply Italian and Tuscan Kitchen are good options....with Simply perhaps a bit cheaper.
