Joe,

You beat me to the punch.

I hope this is a trend  Smaller older venues that couldn't handle a full PGA event for these top flight Am events.  Terrific!!

Joe - Exciting news. As distinct to where they hold all their other venues, the USGA seems to rank great golf courses and course architecture (above crowd accessibility, merchandising, etc.) when they select Walker Cup courses. Was at the National Golf Links when it was there and arguably it is one of the best spectator golf events that you can attend (the Masters is tough to beat) being right up close to the players and with free rein on the property.

I am looking forward to going to LACC this year and Cypress and Seminole now make the bucket list.

I'm very sorry that I missed the Walker Cup at National Golf Links. I don't live that far away but my interest in golf architecture started right around then but it just wasn't on my radar

This is terrific news. I spent a summer at Berkeley in 1981 and managed to get to the first Cypress Walker Cup: it would be very pleasing to make the second iteration in 2025! Seminole is likewise a truly enticing prospect. USGA venue choices for the Walker Cup, running from Merion to NGLA to LACC through to these two, have been both exceptional and appropriate.

The list of US Walker Cup venues is astoundingly good - a who's who of classic golf architecture:

1936 - Pine Valley
1940 - Town & Country
1949 - Winged Foot
1953 - Kittansett Club
1955 - Minikahda Club
1961 - Seattle Country Club
1965 - Baltimore Country Club
1969 - Milwaukee County Club
1973 - The Country Club
1977 - Shinnecock Hills
1981 - Cypress Point
1985 - Pine Valley
1989 - Peachtree
1993 - Interlachen
1997 - Quaker Ridge
2001 - Ocean Forest

2009 - Merion Golf Club
2013 - National Golf Links
2017 - LACC (North)

Although Ocean Forest is a weird one.

Frankly, Town & Country sticks out as well! :)

While we've been going through the master plan process at T&C, we don't have a Donald Ross or Raynor name to help sell the plan. However, a big selling point is to restore the golf course that was once special enough to be considered anything near as good as the courses above on that list!

I had the great fortune to cover the 2009 (Merion) and 2013 (National Golf Links of America) Walker Cups. If I lived in California, I'd be tickled to have 2017 and 2025 in my state.

The Walker is a fantastic event to see. If I lived in the torso of the USA, I would make an effort to get to one of the coasts (time and money permitting) to watch this event. The opportunity to walk with tomorrow's likely professional champions is spectacular.

Hopefully the commitment to a spring Walker Cup at Seminole might encourage the PGA of America to bring its championship southward (as it did in the 1970s at PGA National) in March or May (the latter if Players moves back to March) to feature a southern venue. There is a chance that 2020 (due to Olympic Games) will see PGA at Harding Park in May; I'd like to see a Texas/Florida venue for that major championship.

A school mate played in the last Walker Cup at Cypress Point, lucky bugger.

Just think half of the teams for the Cypress Point match are probably still at junior school or just started high school. Some probably don't even play golf yet.

Had to check to make sure it wasn't April 1st... :)

All I need to do now is decide whether to represent GB&I or the United States.  Perhaps the visa schedule will allow both.  It's inevitable that I'll get down to +6 in time for this.
