If all the rough was removed....
« on: September 30, 2003, 10:09:56 PM »
As an offshoot of Tom MacWood's bunker thread, what if all the rough was removed from all the courses in the world, what great course would be most unaffected by it?

It'd have to be PVGC because the course basically has no rough--never did!

Of course ANGC with no rough would be a wonderful restoration!

Chip:

You're right--NGLA with no rough would be pretty cool. Can you imagine what #9 & #10 with no rough between them would look like? Same with #7 & #12.

They've added a fair amount of rough over the past 10-15 years to keep errant shots out of the gorse and speed up play!  Taking away the rough would bring back the "sphincter factor" to holes such as 3, 7, 9, 17 and 18.

How bout if you did the same for trees, then the land and its movement would truly rule. What courses would look and play better, which ones would not be regarded as highly. Will try and think of some later.

One course that would look far better with a good deal of trees removed but still retaining its "parkland" look would be Aronimink!

That course has truly beautiful topography and roll to its land and to show it up and how well the architecture melds and flows with that site's natural contour would be stunning.

The good news is I think they're working on that---to some extent!

Thanks to someone whom i have forgotten(i believe in proper attribution),i  have begun to ask people "What is the name of our course?" They say "Rolling Green"---I say"Yes--not Springfield Oaks or Township Line Pines."
I have been cursed with the vision of how awesome this place would be without the trees that were added or without rough. When your course is on rolling green and a guy like Flynn lays out a course on it,then you do not need anything else.!!!
