Sloppy Step Sisters

Rustic Canyon with Riviera. Wild Horse with Sand Hills. And perhaps the finest of all, Slope Memorial with Prarie Dunes. An inexpensive public course to be played on the way to a great private, Just like a sloppy step sister, not something you brag about but also just good enough to show to your friends. Any others come to mind?

Common Ground with Cherry Hills (or Ballyneal if you are going a little further and want a double dip of Doak)

Bunker Hill is a fine compliment to Ballyneal. It's the course on the right of the interstate as you get close. Great Veterans Day course as it is affiliated with the VFW. Few bunkers and no hills, named after the famous battle.

Mid Pines with No. 2. Ravisloe with Beverly/Olympia Fields.

French Lick with Victoria National?

Mid Pines and French Lick are no step sisters. I'd go with a couple of old Elks courses, Southern Pines and Vincennes.

This is a tough ask, but a quest well worth seeking.  Its hard to find a truly interesting course near big guns which is cheap as chips. Like you, no way I call Mid-Pines a sloppy step sister...far too expensive far that title.  My options

St Enodoc/Perranporth
Dornoch/Golspie
Burnham Champ/Burnham Channel
Merion/Lederach
Rosses Point/Strandhill

You couldn't come up with a better metaphor than one that draws a full page of porn references when googled? Sadly, the metaphor you chose is rife with middle-school boy fantasy, the kind that men grow out of. Even sadder, no one else has complained about the choice of thread title.

I would brag about Rustic Canyon, Wild Horse, Mid Pines and every other course that the thread contributors deem a lesser course. I'm not certain what the intent is, something to pass the time or something to heighten the quality of discussion on the site.

Quite a few top echelon GB&I courses have another lessor spec course, sometimes 9-holes, sometimes a short 18-holes, sometimes called the relief course or even the ladies course, adjacent and most are worth playing. They are usually a lot less expensive than big brother next door.

Cruden Bay would be one example. Indeed the two best holes of the entire 27-28 holes at CB are probably on the St Olaf course. There are some cracking holes on the Holywell course at St Enodoc. The Yellow-9 at
Portmarnock looks wonderful and Formby/Formby Ladies has been very favourably commented on herein on numerous occasions. Many others too.

For me, Formby Ladies at £59 is easily too expensive as a sloppy sis-in-law.  Good course for sure, but one to pick up on a deal because its over-priced.

Rackham would be the step sister that has had a lot of plastic surgery. I-696 did that course no favors. It's a bit further away but how about Rosedale Park?

Ravisloe and Olympia Fields. Rav is a pretty good sloppy sister and falls into this category because of maintenance issues after it went public.
