Do course openings get pushed back often?
« on: November 08, 2016, 11:09:41 AM »
Is it common for course openings to get pushed back about a year out from opening?

I'm talking specifically of Streamsong Black. My dad and I are considering a trip down there next fall/winter. The Streamsong website says the Black will be open Autumn of 2017 so we are probably talking the first 2-3 months of play.

Obviously stuff happens and things get delayed. But my question is how often?

TIA

Joe,

Not usually, unless weather or money dictate otherwise. In the case of SS Black, the course was being given more time than not to mature and ready itself for the amount of play they expect to see. Additionally, the brutal heat of the summers down that way should be behind it and allow for the turf's health to stabilize.

All depends on when the grass was sown.  If the contractor falls behind schedule a month, more often than not, it means a year of grow in over two seasons vs 8-16 weeks in one season.

It is luck. I reckon 50-50. Sometimes the weather is against you sometimes with you. If it goes against you no money will buy it, you nver know when that last day is there or has past, growth of grass can be wow or it can be *****n s*i*t*. (the UK view)
