Trees - televised golf
« on: September 30, 2016, 04:00:59 PM »
On these classic courses like Hazeltine the trees have gotten tall. Unless removed they pose another issue. Why do they cut the pins where people putt though shadows late in the day? - it has an adverse effect on the golfer and tv coverage.

For me this is a non-issue.  Golf's played outside.  Trees and shadows, for better or worse, are part of the playing field.

I was thinking the same thing. Too many big trees with huge shadows near the greens. Obviously not the first time we've seen shadows late in the day but it seemed more prevalent today.

Remember we are at the end of September. The sun is not getting as high in the sky as it was in July & August and sunset is getting earlier each day. That is one reason why the shadows are more noticeable later in the day.

and in many cases it's bleachers creating the shadows.
short days, 36 holes-early starts-late finishes
outdoor game

Not to mention ridiculous pace of play with four groups each wave! :P

Agreed. But the shaows looked like broccoli :)

I assume they move the pins between each round. I may be wrong.

They do move them. The shadows move as well. If it was overcast, this would not be an issue.
