Would it be an idea to select not just one venue and outline timing for 2018 but also select for 2019 and 2020 (i.e. a rolling 3 year plan)?
This would allow unsuccessful locations from one year to move to the following year, we'd all have an idea for future planning purposes where events would be held and.....we'd have more than one venue to look forward to visiting? Always nice to have in mind future golf trips.
Just a thought.

We’re a bunch of blokes from golfclubatlas, not the European Tour !! In any case I very much doubt whether any clubs would take bookings that far in advance.

To a great extent that's how it has worked in the past.  I'm pretty confidant that if the Highlands are 2018, we'll be at Goswick in 2019.  I do think it's important that BUDA continues to be taken to places some of our visiting bretheren are not familiar with.
In June I will be riding the first three stages of this year's Tour de France route for charity.  630km (394 miles) in three days, with 7800m (25,600 feet) of climbing for the William Wates Memorial Trust (https://rideleloop.org/the-charity/) which supports underprivileged young people.

I love the way a consensus seems to emerge and thinking a couple of years ahead also definitely helps.

My take on it is that its becoming clearer that
2018   Golspie
2019    Goswick

would be welcomed by all.

There were several other possible mentioned for future events and they all sound great to me Harlech/Aberdovey  being my next favourite amongst them   All it needs is the willingness and generosity of one person to take it on and make it happen.

Thanks for all the great suggestions.

I haven't made a BUDA yet, but I'd love to get back to Golspie/Brora et al and would appreciate the opportunity to do so with you all.

FWIW, I would like to nominate Minchinhampton Old and Cleeve Cloud as the co-hosts in 2020.

They are two of the most interesting courses I've seen in the past five years and more Americans should get to see them.  Better still, each of them has a reasonable hotel / pub quite handy to the course.

For what it's worth I'll be staying at the Stones Throw in Golspie from Sept 10-20 and will meet with people from Golspie and Brora.  I'll look into dinner options as well and post what I find. I've been in touch with Tony who indicates he will act as treasurer regardless of where we go.

Obviously nothing is a done deal yet but there does seem to be a lot of interest in the Golspie/Brora venue.

Sorry, what I should also have said in my last post was what a great event this year's BUDA was which was very much down to Craig Disher's excellent organisation. Well done and thank you Craig.

Niall
I would like to second Niall's thank you to Craig. Craig put quite a bit of effort into pulling Littlestone and Rye together for our event. Not many groups get the access to Rye that we enjoyed, so this year's Buda was indeed a special event. Thank you, Craig!!!

I also want to thank Niall and Lou for taking on the captain's duties for this event. They did a fabulous job which made the entire set of matches pleasurable for all. Well done, guys!

Finally, I would like to cast my vote for having the 2018 Buda at Golspie and Brora. There are so many good reasons to take the Buda to the Highlands. In addition to Brora and Golspie being the perfect venue for our matches, there are numerous options for pre and post Buda golf. Let's do it!

Second thanks to Craig and Captains. I've told some friends about Rye and their comments have included "are they struggling for members playing only alternate shot" and "but how do you post a score?" I then tell them it's a par 68!

Bill,
Rye has a pretty healthy membership and even if new members are suspicious of foursomes, they come to love the format. 2-man match play is always available and I'd guess that most golf at Rye is played that way. Club and society matches are always foursomes. Score for handicap is solved by the Wednesday Stableford roll-up - off in pairs in the morning with lunch to follow.

Tom Doak?  I'm sure I'd heard that name before.  On checking the records I find that you were at the Painswick "Buda" so yes your voice counts.

Thanks for the suggestion one I'd be happy to champion when I have more time.

In fact playing Cleeve, 13/4/18 will make early soundings.  All welcome.

Dates for Golspie?

I'd like to know the dates too, Stan.  If the first week or two of July is possible, I can promise that I'll be there, and can help players who want to play some really good (and cheap) open competitions and bounce games pre- and apres- BUDA.

As for the BUDA itself, if Tom D. is going to visit that would be great, and I'd love to play with him again in the 4BBB, if selected.

Based on Steve Wilson's comments on his prior thread and my anticipated travel plans for next year, I expect the first half of September would be a likely time to stage the event at Golspie/Brora. As these clubs usually do not set their fixture list for the next year till the end of the current year, it may be several months before firm dates can be secured.

Mark:

I would love to attend another BUDA.  Actually, I would have loved to attend this year's edition, since it has been many years since I got back to Rye, one of my favorite spots.

The problem for me is timing.  I believe the Painswick event was in the spring or early summer, when my schedule is flexible.  The last few events have been in August or September, when I'm usually either finishing up a new course, or just starting some major renovation.  [For example, according to the memo I just received from Crystal Downs, I will be tearing into their 8th green and two others in September or October of 2020.]

If you do go to Minch Old and Cleeve Cloud, I will do my best to fix my schedule accordingly.  I don't know if I could have a better time than I did last fall playing with Thomas Dai at the former and Sean Arble at the latter, but they are certainly two courses I want to get back to.

Maybe you guys would consider playing at Woodhall Spa one year, too, after our work there is finished.  We have the middle holes to do work on this December, and then the holes closest to the clubhouse at the end of 2018.

Generally the weather is best in either May-June or September-October. Also any time in July and August will make finding accommodation and restaurant very tricky for larger groups with less chances for getting deals as it high season.

Rich,
Is the end of June not possible for you? Or the latter part of July? Your suggestion of pre- and post-Buda golf is what we like to hear.

The annual Goodale/McRoberts gathering in Dornoch will be early-mid July 2018.  There are usually 40-50 of us, aged <8-80> and it is not a pretty sight for those who prefer the genteel atmosphere of most "Royal" burghs and their golf clubs.

Other dates up north for my participation are possible, but not guaranteed.

Hope all is well.  I'll be in Florida mid-Sept-->early December, and I might be a late call wannabe for the Dixie Cup at Streamsong, depending....

All the best

May/June is statistically the driest (least wet!) period in the UK - NB: best avoid the last week in May or the 1st week in June though - there's a school holiday week then (for Whitsun).

A schedule of 2018 - Golspie/Brora, 2019 - Goswick, 2120 - Minch' Old/Cleeve Cloud
sounds wonderful.

Brora/Golspie would be much better than Golsipe/Brora.

Goswick.  Meh?

Minch etc. Good, but possibly GREAT if a return to Painswick was also in the cards.
