Have a great week, Bill. Course looks like it's in great shape based on your Instagram photos.

Bill,

Thanks for the reminder.   I've always enjoyed watching Canterbury on television and hope to play there next year.

My understanding is that the course is going to close for the year after this event and will undergo a fairly comprehensive restoration that includes tree removal, bunker rebuilding, green expansion, and possibly more.   Any idea who the architect is?

A little birdie tells me it will be Bruce Hepner.

I watched on tv some of the first round yesterday and the terrain looks very good.

P.S.  And you gotta love that Andrew Johnston's caddy bib simply says "Beef" on the back!

Well it came and went.  We had 3 days of lift, clean and place and the winning score was 7-under-par.  When the course was at it's firmest on Thursday morning, we actually had the best scoring of the whole week!  Bobby Wyatt shot a course record 63 and we thought these young guys were gonna tear up the place.  But the old girl held her own and came through with a great champion in Bryson DeChambeau.  He hit every fairway on Sunday, even the two playoff holes, but still shot his worst round of the week, one-over 71.  The tricky winds, uneven lies in the fairways and baffling greens kept the scores down, but not one player used the word "unfair."
I had my ears open to lots of conversations this week when players and caddies were talking about the golf course and how happy they were to be playing a place like this.  Pure golf, thinking your way around the course, having to have the right angles and yardages into greens.  I was really, really happy with the way Canterbury showed itself this week.  I would have loved to have seen firm and fast all week, but hopefully we'll get it next year.  I also thought the Golf Channel did an exceptional job with their coverage, specifically Craig Perks.  He did his homework and it showed.  Hopefully some of you got a chance to see some of the coverage.

Congratulations on a great week, Bill. Canterbury looked great.

I'll be interested to see what Mr. Hepner does with the course.

Bill:

Just curious, I've always heard it referred to as Canterbury Country Club.  Looking at some old articles and books I see it as Caturbury Golf and Canterbury CC.  Any interesting insight on the history.  Thanks

I must admit that when I heard Ron Rice (President of RPM International) say "Canterbury Country Club" in this video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WDXbmtx0I94), my heart skipped a beat, because I know how sensitive the club is about being Canterbury Golf Club, and not Canterbury Country Club.

Plus, at the end of the video, you'll see our own Bill McKinley talk. :)

Bill,

So glad to hear that Canterbury showed so well, wish I could have made it out to the tourney.  I was scheduled to be a walking scorer this year at the DAP, but decided to back out due to other commitments.  Will have to rectify that next year so I can see the course under these conditions!
