Manufacturers, Huntingdon Valley or Lancaster?
« on: September 13, 2016, 01:43:02 PM »
I have the opportunity to play one of the 3 in a few weeks and was hoping I can get some guidance as to which one I should play.

It depends on your personal preference. If you love firm and fast it is HVCC. If you like five par threes that offer variety and challenge then it is MGCC. If you want a strong set of par fours then LCC is the winner.

Choosing between those three courses is a very pleasant dilemma!

So true. I really like HVCC, and I love Mannies, but if I could only play one, my choice would be Lancaster. Here's why:

I haven't played Huntingdon Valley or Lancaster but I absolutely loved Mannies, so much variety in the design. It has a great mix of tough holes and birdie holes and is extremely playable for all.

Frank,

Manufacturer's is good...and Lancaster is great...but if this weather holds relatively well (dry and warm but cooling) you'll be able to see something at Huntingdon Valley that few, if any, courses in the world can present.

3 Great options to play. Lancaster is simply amazing-well worth the drive out from Philly . I believe it is under rated on the GW classic list.  Should be considered to be firmly amongst the top 5 Flynn designs. It is a superior piece of property compared to Manufacturers. HV is a bit repititious given the Nascar like routing but all in all a hell of a good course.

Throw Rolling Green and Lehigh into the mix and you have a real conundrum.

Whichever one you pick you will not be disappointed. Mannys with the fall colors will be nice. They have a great deck to sit and watch  play on 18, plus their showers are the best.

All great GAP  clubs.
We have a pool and a pond, the pond would be good for you.

Oh yes.  Maybe even toss in Philadelphia Country Club and Green Valley and you have a lucky seven of Phila area Flynn courses.

Concur on Philadelphia, less so GV.

It's quite good, but a full point or so below the others.

If forced to choose with a 7-iron at my temple I'd opt to drive out to Lancaster.

Assuming you have no mobster enemies, which course do you choose when you are not suicidal...just feeling happy and well adjusted?

Too funny Mr. Arble!   ;D

Mr. Flynn tends to know all my weaknesses so I tend to get a bit nervous around his courses.

Of all the courses mentioned I've probably had my best rounds at Lehigh, so perhaps it's a bit less relentless than the others in that regard.

Still, throw in my favorite Pho Tai restaurant on the planet just five minutes away and I'm sure I can assuage my wounds from Lancaster quite adequately.   I would say that Lancaster has one or two holes that have been revised over the years that are questionable but also has the highest high points and most variety.

Here's a writeup I did on Mannies, thought it was spectacular.  http://www.friedegg.co/golf-courses/manufacturers-golf-country-club-review
