I hope this is not an inappropriate use of this discussion group. I saw the below post in another forum and in the spirit of golf being a collegial endeavor thought some of the experts here might able and willing to provide some advice for this guy. If there are suggestions posted here I can PM the original poster with a link to this thread.
"I am wondering if there is a public forum that has experienced green-keepers or superintendents that will give some free advice to a public course? If there is please point me in the right direction, if someone on here can help that would be great...[/size]
We are in West Texas and use a pond to hold water that is pumped from the city as well as water wells. The pond has always been treated until about 6 months ago we lost our green-keeper and the new one did not treat it for 6 months until he finally left. Now we are experiencing extreme algae problems within the pond that we water the course out of. There have been multiple sprinkler lines plugging off it has been so bad. We recently had a company come in an install a Bio pump and the new green-keeper is also adding a monthly treatment of what he calls "spikes". We also had the intake of the pump cleaned out and around 12' around the intake so we are no longer experiencing the algae problems in the sprinkler lines. BUT the algae is 5-6ft thick in the pond we have bent/bermuda green mixture and I would like to know if we can slug feed it weekly with chlorine tablets to get the algae killed faster and if so what do we need to keep the residual of chlorine in the water to not kill the bent or bermuda grasses???
