I was very impressed on the second day there to be let through by a father and son from North Carolina, who make a trip to the British Isles every year for golf and who were taking a couple of days at Askernish.

An alternative route is to drive to Malaig (an hour past Fort William) and get a 3.5 hour ferry to Lochboisdale on South Uist which is only a 15 minute (or less) drive from the course.  Any of these drives/ferry rides will, on a good day, be spectacularly beautiful and worth the journey on their own, as Tom says, but there's no denying it does take an effort to get to Askernish.
In June I will be riding the first three stages of this year's Tour de France route for charity.  630km (394 miles) in three days, with 7800m (25,600 feet) of climbing for the William Wates Memorial Trust (https://rideleloop.org/the-charity/) which supports underprivileged young people.
