Jim, if you are correct, wouldn't USGA and California method greens have particular problems as they are sand based? Why the need for top dressing?
I think so Shelly. I think a basis of the theory is that it demands much more attention throughout the hot/humid days in Philadelphia, or Chicago for that matter.
Thank you Blake and Kyle for the explanation...as I mentioned, certainly outside my depth here but there is a philosophy worth discussing in my opinion.
Take this sentence from Kyle's post - "
Sand, for what it is worth, is much easier to cool/dry than heavier soils" - does that imply that sand is also easier to heat up? Assuming so, wouldn't the heavier soils be preferable in July/August in the Philadelphia suburbs? In other words, I might not have to cool it down if it didn't get so hot...
