BUDA Cup - Mulranny Prologue
« on: August 19, 2016, 07:21:31 AM »
My thanks to everybody who took the trouble to respond to my PM regarding their plans to play Mulranny on Friday September 2. It looks like we shall have a healthy turnout.

Currently, these are the people who shall definitely be at Mulranny on Friday, with an indication of the time they shall be there.

Josie & Rich Goodale: Friday am
Thomas Dai & Bill Thomas: Friday am
RJ Daley: Friday am

Mike Whitaker: Lunchtime
Jerry Kluger: Lunchtime
Garland Bayley: Lunchtime
Ulrich & Gabriele Mayring Lunchtime
Lou Duran: Lunchtime
Steve Wilson: Lunchtime
Robin Hiseman: Lunchtime
Bryan Izatt: Lunchtime

John Mayhugh: Afternoon
Tony Muldoon: Afternoon
Niall Carlton: Afternoon
Rick Shefchik & Barbara Lundgren: Afternoon

Just one favour please. No matter if you are a golf club rater, or have a reason to expect a courtesy, please pay the green fee. A kind word goes a long way, but a kind word and cold hard cash helps to keep Mulranny in business.

I have been down in Mulranny playing some golf this week.

I believe those who pass up the opportunity to play will be really missing something a little special.

The club said the Friday afternoon will be quiet enough so given every one is just due to roll up, I didn't book times. There will be no problem on arrival.

Green fee is €20 for the day no matter whether you play 9 or 18. If by chance there's no one there then just put the fees in the brown envelope and slip it between the glass panes.

Whoops... there goes the neighborhood. Never thought I'd read something like "please pay the greenfee" on this board. What's next? "Never hit anyone over their head with your sand wedge"? :)

I know, it's a stretch.  The green fee is something like 15 Euros.

Might not be anyone going who would think to claim a freebie, but everyone pays at Mulranny. Best to make that clear I think.

Robin,

My flight doesnt get into Knock until 14.10 on Friday afternoon, and so by the time I've collected baggae and hire car, its probably going to be too late to play Mulranny. If I get through swiftly then I may still divert via there to catch up with any stragglers and see the place, but am more likely to head straight to Belmullet.

Cheers,

James

It's a guaranteed 90 minutes to Belmullet, so you'll be there 4:30pm. I'd do that if I were you.

You aren't saying it is 90 minutes, Bellmullett to Mulranny are you?  That looks like about 30mile,  47ish Kms.... I'll be in Talbot a night early and will double back the morn of 2nd.
No actual golf rounds were ruined or delayed, nor golf rules broken, in the taking of any photographs that may be displayed by the above forum user.

Sounds awesome! Wish I would of been able to make it this year, love those courses out there on the edge of the known world.

How awesome is that: if no-one is around, please put your 15 bucks in the brown envelope. Not many places you can do that anymore.

OT: I'll be spending that weekend in Frankfurt fulfilling a lifelong dream of my 15 year old daughter. Get this....to see Billy Joel in concert! Not sure what happened to her but let this be a lesson to all you young guys. Be careful what kind of music you pollute your children with when they are growing up. Could be worse, I could be having to go see One Direct or some other boys band.

Do raters expect freebies? I know a few clubs are wising up to the boom in "raters".

With Niall's welcome addition we have a terrific turnout for Mulranny. I hope they have enough green fee envelopes for us all!

Thanks for organising this, Robin.  Just to update our status, Josie and I will be arriving in Mulranny c. 5pm on Thursday.  The weather forecast looks dire for Thu., so you're more likely to find us in the bar of our B&B (McLoughlin's of Mulranny) than on the course.  As for Friday, we'll probably be coming down for noon or so rather than in the AM.  Looks like a good crowd.  See y'all soon.

I am sitting in the wide open and totally vacant Mulranny clubhouse about noon.  I am taking a little driving break and the heading to check into Talbot a day early.  The weather is golfable but raining lightly with stiff breese.  No one is on the course.  Ireland phone is 087 403 1721.

I am in Doolin right now and it has been raining sideways all day. There is nobody out on the streets right now and the pubs are jam packed full. The Doolin Pitch and Putt, which looks like a nice links track, has no business.

Basically, all we did today was drive an hour to buy Irish Whiskey :)
